Pinpin — Pinyin & Tones

Effective date: September 25, 2026

Pinpin is developed and published by Jiangchao Wei (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what data the app handles and why.

The short version

Ads: Google AdMob and App Tracking Transparency

The free version of Pinpin shows full-screen ads provided by Google AdMob. Pinpin Pro shows no ads, and the ad software is not loaded at all for Pro users.

The first time a free user starts a practice round, Pinpin may show Google's consent form (where the law requires it) and then Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt, which asks whether Pinpin may use your device's advertising identifier. If you allow it, ads may be personalised. If you decline, only non-personalised ads are requested. You can change this at any time in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.

According to Google, the AdMob software may collect:

Google's handling of this data is described in its privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.

Purchases: RevenueCat

Pinpin Pro is sold through Apple's App Store. Pinpin uses RevenueCat to confirm the purchase and to restore it on other devices. RevenueCat receives your purchase history for Pinpin together with a random, anonymous app user ID. It is used to provide the purchase (app functionality) and for purchase analytics. It is not linked to your identity and is not used for tracking. Payment itself is handled by Apple; we never see your payment details.

RevenueCat's privacy policy: revenuecat.com/privacy.

Anonymous usage counts: TelemetryDeck

Pinpin sends a small number of anonymous events to TelemetryDeck so we can see, in aggregate, which parts of the app are used. The events are:

Each event carries a user ID that is a random number created on your device when the app is installed, salted and hashed before it is sent. It is not your Apple ID, not the advertising identifier and not any other device identifier, and it disappears when you delete the app. It is used for analytics only; it is not linked to your identity and not used for tracking. No learning content — which sounds, words or answers you practised — is ever sent.

What we do not collect

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, audio recordings, precise location, health or financial information, browsing or search history, or anything you type in the app. We do not sell data.

Keeping and deleting your data

Your progress lives on your device. Deleting Pinpin deletes it, along with the anonymous identifiers described above; you can also clear it at any time in Settings › Reset data. Data held by Google, RevenueCat and TelemetryDeck is kept according to their own policies linked above.

Children

Pinpin is a general-audience learning app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Ads in Pinpin are limited to content suitable for a general audience.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
